A2 is another one that is very well favored, perhaps more so than A4, now that I think about it. But you are correct in thinking that maybe he could get the sound he wants from degaussing his A5 a little.

    You didn't answer my question.
Have you tried these, or are you being Hypothetical, or just guessing?

A2 and A5, Magnets can be used for most applications.
Just use the A2s at full charge, for a more vintage sound.

If you giving Advice to someone in Uruguay, Australia, Germany, or BumF__k, it would be nice for it to be Hands on advice.
Or you could start by saying, "I haven't tried this, but I read in a book, or I saw this on the Inet somewhere, Yada, Yada, Yada, Yay!

Now why would I send a feller on a wild-goose chase, eh? I've got nothing better to do up here in BumF__k then to bamboozle around with pickups. I've really got to build a mule because I wear out too many sets of strings swapping things in and out of my player guitar.

Slinky 10s work for me, I like the tone, brightness, and I like the price.
I tear them up, with all the tuner twisting working on pickups.
                    Use whatever works for you.

You can weaken them, but not totally discharge them with NEO Magnets.
Alnico magnets can be totally reverse polarized with Neos.
I havent been able to do that with Ceramics, just weaken or strengthen them.

Thanks Terry, i have ordered to Shea ceramic 8 and 6 of rectangular shape 0.5L x 0.230W(n,s) x 0.125L and 0.250L x 0.230W(n,s) x 0.125L for making blade pickups for strat and humbuckers, i´m going to put them like this:

Instead of using polepieces i´m going to use blade... this is because i´m going to make a 7 and 6 string pickups for my future guitar build.

The very first pickup I made was A4, double coated wire, 5,500 turns on the screw coil 5,300 slug (I think - lost count estimated by weighing), and probably quite loosely wound 'coz I was afraid of breaking the wire. Unpotted. It sounds really nice in my dot and got me hooked on pickup-making. Not overly bright but a nice kind of honky sound with a little bit of character.

AFAIK A4 was the one used most often in original PAFs, as well as other A's of course.

I can post some clips sometime with the same pickup comparing A2/A3/A4/A5 magnets if anyone's interested.

I'd also love to hear a sample of a good Gibson 335 DI'd which I can use as a reference point for my experiments
