    hi peskywinnets,

i didn't undestand all because my english isn't good... but grat work .... i already have a PC controller for my winder but i do not want PC anymore because my table is small....

about pulley you can find it in any cnc-parts store in the web....

here is first video with both motors....

    400 turns
    20 turns ac-deceleration
    600 rpm
    single pitch 22 TPL
    pause and resume

It won't win any design awards, but after a couple of hours with socme scrap acrylic, I made what is probably the cheapest/quickest auto traversing stepper driven pickup winder possible..

(bottom left motor is the main turning stepper motor, top right stepper motor has a helix on the shaft which will traverse the wire left/right/left in synch with the other stepper. The little wheel in the middle has some holes pre-tapped to hold the two sizes of driver bobbin - remember this is for sustainer drivers not pickups...there's an example of the type of bobbin I'll be winding onto lying at the bottom of the photos)

I won't have many of these to make, so the unease of access (to mount the pickup to the wheel) isn't much of a problem for me - getting something up & running was the priority.

hope to start this running for the first time tonight.

Does this directly control the stepper motors, or do the stepper motors have their own controller boards?

                      Yes!

Elepro, once you get this coil winder project done you'll have to start work on an Extech style inductance meter!
I can't wait to see that discussion...

I can provide the circuit diagram. And yards of argument.

Oh this is getting good... I can have all the gadgets I need and at a DIY price!

                            (we need a "drool" emoticon!)

Dang David you spilled the beans, I was going to ask Elepro if he was interested in this kind of project after the gaussmeter group-buy finished up, but since it has come up now.....

A frequency graph definately! I'd would like to see a USB (or RS-232) output connection so we could run an app on a computer and pull the chart data in. If we got the data out of the test unit and into a computer we could print and save it for other use after the measurement has taken place.

Sure having a nice hand-held graphing meter is cool, but it would be much more useful if we could get the data into a computer.

Regarding the graph, perhaps we might agree on at least a 10-point or better graph? that would be way more useful than an Extech meter's 2-point test IMHO

Maybe even the notion of graphing a frequency sweep of say 30hz -to- 15Khz or so?
