I have recently finished my first two humbuckers which I wound with my own machine.
I used a pair of kits from Amplified Parts, with 42AWG poly coated. I was going for a brighter tone so used Alnico 5 and no more than 4,500 winds per coil for the bridge, and 4,000 for the neck. That gave me 7k and 6k DCR respectively. Compared to the Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz I had in one of my guitars these are so much brighter and more articulate. So I am very pleased.
