  • foot controller for gp-16 and ada mp1

i`m not an electronix person at all but would like someone to explain this...
i have a roland gp16 connected to the effects loop of my ada mp1 preamp.
i have an fc 100 foot controller that is connected to the gp16.
how can i get my foot controller to change both units at the same time?
as in i want an effect on the gp16 in bank 1 number 1 and the ada on bank 1 number 1 then switch to a new sound on the gp16 bank 1 number 2 and the ada also switches to bank 1 number 2? can this be done through midi cables between the gp16 and the ada? or do i need an ada mc1 foot controller that will change the ada settings and use the fc100 to change the gp16 settings-then i`d have to hit both buttons at the same time.
how do i wire these together to create different sounds changing both units simultainiously-can it be done.
    all the best

Bit rusty on this now but if the GP 16 can be set to transmit program change
or patch change and the ada can receive it as long as they are set to the same midi channel it should work.
Matter of wading through the midi section in the manuals and of course Midi out GP 16 to Midi In ADA.

If for some reason the Roland doesn't convert their internal codeing to midi
using a midi controller may fix this and going into midi in GP 16 and thru to ADA midi in.The Roland send channel and ADA receive channel should be set to the same.

There is a discussion on this forum re converting a FC 100 to a midi controller
    here http://music-electronics-forum.com/s...ead.php?t=2932
but hopefully you wont have to resort to this.

oc disorder-thanx for the info-i finally got it to do what i want-you are correct-i started connecting the midi in/out cables and then went into the midi section on the gp16-after 10 hours and repeated wrong moves i got the ada to change and then after more wrong moves i got it happening...the ada and the gp16 now both change with the fc100 foot controller-i just re organized my sounds and now have a very versitile link that can be used for live changes in songs-i was that happy when it worked i played guitar all night. the switching is instant and clear-thanx -

In each patch on the GP-16 there is a parameter which can pump out a MIDI program change to it's MIDI out. So you don't have to rearrange you pre amp patches to match. Check out pages 44 through 52 in your GP-16 owners manual.

P.S. I have that same set up into an ADA TS100. I love my ADA gear! The Ampulator is the best.

            gp-16 and ada mp-1

i have had these 2 units for abour 20 years, i can tell you about the foot controller, all you have to do is connect the midi out of your gp-16 to the midi in on the mp1, 2 obvious drawbacks are the numbers wont match
because the gp-16 has no 9 or 0 (8 banks of 8 channels)
but it still works. the other is if the gp-16 ever fails you cant use the foot controller without it.

Well...I've got the GP-16 but I can't find the foot controller

              Hi,

Can I go the other way?? Use a generic midi footcontroller and change the cable to RRC?

              Thanks.
