  • Suggestions for a cheap, cell-phone sized metal enclosure?

I need a box to hold circuitry for a DIY onboard mic for acoustic instruments- to be housed in a cell phone holster I found at the local dollar store. Approximate dimensions are 22 x 48 x 80 mm; 7/8 x 1-7/8 x 3-1/8 in.

The 7/8 in dimension tolerance is most critical; bigger won't fit in the holster, smaller won't accomodate a standard XLR connector. Other dimensions are maximum values.

I've got an Altoids Chewing Gum tin that might work- just wondering if anyone has other suggestions. I keep thinking there must be some common object I haven't thought of.

    Thanks,
    -rb

    PS -
If someone could point me to an "official" enclosure that works, I'd appreciate that too.

      How about a cigarette case?

Not a common object here. I think the last time I saw a cigarette case was in a Bette Davis flick. Oh well, thanks anyway.

              D'oh.

I have one of those boxes- socked it away for a different project & forgot about it. Took me a while to find it... absolutely perfect for the application.

              Thanks, Regis!

Welcome. I've built small guitar amp attenuators inside Altoids tins, I might buy a few of these from Altronics and try them too.
