    Here's the guts of the amp previously mentioned. Not exactly pretty, but I built it as a breadboard to try some ideas and then left it alone. The driver heaters are elevated to 90v on account of the 'top' triode in an SRPP having the cathode voltage at the same potential as its partner's plate. It's very quiet and even when turned right up there's no background noise detectable from the speakers.

    These are the older Sansui transformers. The later ones used end-bells and are of much better construction overall. But these were free.

    Anyhow, I'm taken with the configuration and intend to build another using the same ideas. I wonder what SRPP would be like for a guitar preamp - haven't tried it myself (yet..)
