A local restaurant brought me a barely used $800 JBL EON 618S subwoofer that is shutting itself down, making loud noises when it does. I told them it was a full module assy replacement repair since boards are not offered for this model, and I stand no chance of repairing an smd class D amp/supply. They were bummed because they only bought it just before the pandemic less than two years ago, and only used it maybe 6 times. I looked all over the internet and the only one I could find is in Australia for $345 plus shipping to US. The dealers all told me the assy. was discontinued with no replacement offered. Lots of not working/for parts only modules available on eBay, so I assume these had a high failure rate, and JBL abandoned them.
So now the customer has a $50 bench fee bill, and a $800 paper weight. And that folks, seems to be largely where we are today with today's throw away world. Sad.
