Sometimes I forget your not a native English speaker even though you type fairly good English.

FWIW: I think Helmholtz does extremely well with English. In fact, if you didn't know otherwise, I believe you'd think it was his native language. This leads me to an off topic question for you, Helmholtz. It matters not, but for my own curiosity- do you use some sort of translator, or are you multilingual?

Thanks, never used a translator, not being multilingual but often use my favorite online dictionary: https://dict.leo.org/german-english/einflussreich.
Works both ways with many languages.
Have been told that I don't sound bad either (so not typical "German").
Had good English teachers at grammar (?) school.
Best university physics books were available in English only (e.g. the wonderful Feynman "Lectures on Physics" and others).
Worked for a company with joint ventures, factories, design centers all over the world, had some global responsibilities/tasks. Lots of English communication, many business trips (Europe, GB, US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, China).
Also was a member of the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission).
                      International always means English spoken.

One of the reasons I joined the MEF was to practice and improve my English skills.
I think it's best to think in English.

Nevertheless reading bad/flawed or illogical English often throws me off.

Wondering who invented that "quote", as Sophocles was greek and lived BC, so hardly knew any English.
Sounds like Shakespeare English to me.

That's funny you learned English because the best physics books were in English , my dad learned German because the best chemistry books were in German .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Francklin translated oedipus the king in 1756 so that probably explains the prose.
