  • Fender Sidekick 10

I just offered to repair a Fender Sidekick 10 for a buddy, but I can't find a schematic after checking all of the regular sources. Is one available? If you have one to share, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Call me think, but I didn't see a Sidekick 10 in any of those links. It has a single 3300uF cap. The power supply is not bi-polar, as far as I know.

He is looking for one that uses HA1388 output IC, and can run on battery. One of the frontman 25's also uses the 1188 chip like the champ15G, but I have not found anything that has HA1388 chip.

Even with amplifier already repaired, IF Fender answers with an fresh schematic please post it here, it will help others with similar problems.

As a side note, and confirming what I wrote in the other thread, most other Sidekicks shown in the above suggested schematics are discrete ... and can be easily repaired today.

Oh, I wasn´t answering you, who posted a TON of schematics , but patlaw, who apparently will get it straight from Fender.
Many repair their problem and instantly forget MEF ; it would be GREAT if each successful ending helps not just one, but many.

So patlaw, if you get the proper schematic (which has proven quite hard to find), please post it here

As of Sidekick, they belong to a grey era for Fender, who at the timewent through lots of problems and almost disappeared, they had ceased US production of everything, including Guitars , there were a couple Months where they even didn´t post any publicity at magazines (specially Guitar Player) , new owners had no Factories anywhere (they had bought only the Brand and the rights to instrument *shape* , but nothing "physical"), and for some time could only resell Japanese made stuff ... under their own brand of course.

OEM suppliers used standard (for them) Japanese parts, including Hitachi chipamps, or all Japanese transistors.
Many used uPC188 which is a good general purpose chipamp but I think this particular amp was meant to fill the niche ocuppied by Peavey Solo and similar: a 15W class amp , very portable, and 12V battery powered, so the natural choice was a "Car Stereo Amplifier" , using BTL output to get that power.

For Fender, a white fly/black sheep. ¨Pick one

I just requested a schematic from Fender. They sent an autoresponse that they were busy and would get to it at some point. When and if they do, I will certainly make it available here.

That must have been going on at the tail end of the "Rivera Era" of Fender 1982-1986 where they were trying to breathe some life into new designs and add new ideas to existing models. 1985 represents the year that the employees of Fender organized a buyout from CBS. Yet they did not buy the Corona based manufacturing plant in the deal and had to build a new plant.

Edit: That also explains the late 80's Studio lead II and related amps wearing the made in Japan badge, same on the guitars too around that time.

A friend has an 80's Japanese made Strat and swears by it, won´t exchange it for any newer US made one no matter what.

I think the OEM Japanese factory which made it later burnt to the ground. Hoshino?

I repaired tons of the Japanese Squier/Fender amps, all were decent , clearly built to a price, but reasonably well made and easy to repair.
