Hey camjenkins and nickb - my grateful thanks to you both - now all i have to do is figure out why the power amplifier smps is not starting up - 15v rails to preamp are all ok and all the fets and diodes look and test ok - no sign of any burnt components - i have cut the board traces to isolate the smps from the 450w power amp as well (just in case). Smps are fun to work onaren't they - lol.

The layout of the jacks and attenuator on the back are remarkably similar, and I doubt Ampeg would have changed the crossover much.Comment

Well, I don't have anything specifically for the PF-800. However, I do have the complete schematics for the PF-500, which, if my guess is correct, at least has the same preamp. I'll just put them here, since they might be helpful.

Same preamp, and the power amp has a similar Class D design.
As it turns out, I didn't need any schematics to repair the amp. There were tin whiskers near the temperature sensing IC, which was what was causing the amp to cut in and out. After retouching the soldering, all is well.
