One sure way to find out if it is the pickup or the maple guitar is to swap the bridge pickups of the two guitars and see if the problem stays with the maple...

P.A.F. era TPL/Winding pattern varied depending on what machine the particular bobbin was wound on. And total turns varied tremendously per bobbin.

As a general rule of thumb, most hand guided pickups will tend to be micophonic and will need potting.
