If he's putting 7500 turns of 42 gauge wire he should be getting somewhere around 5.3 to 5.6K DCR... tops.

I had the same problem too! I tried mounting a five pound spool horizontally and rotating, but no matter what I did the coil wire on a full spool always broke...
