Bottom line: these are TOOLS, not TOYS. And a "deafening" 60W is EASILY matched by even a "reasonable" drummer. Which, by the way, they're the next group of "deaf old rock stars." They keep locking them up in sealed pickle jars and want them to plat with the same ferocity... if you think a 60W guitar amp is "deafening," try a full drum kit in a, oh, 7'x7'x6' plexiglass sealed cage.

Look, I don.t play at 100 dB all the time as some may be lead to believe, but there's a time and a place for it, if you want to keep it real. Otherwise, go back to your wussy earbuds and listen to your 250mW through your 3mm "speakers" and leave me alone. Stop wasting my time with your "oh, it's too loud... think of the CHILDREN!"

And another thing: two questions to ask EVERY "sound guy" who complains: "do I sound like shit?" & "who am I drowning out?" If the answers are no and nobody, then tell them to shut the hell up and let the MUSICIANS do their JOB using THEIR tools.

    Sorry. I'm getting bitter.

    Justin

Is this the same Justin Thomas who wrote:
"And "stories" like this (it seems trite calling them that) are why I get <EXTREMELY> (like, EXTRAORDINARILY) pissed off when someone suggests to me that my instruments are "just tools,......"

Sorry, I just had to mess with you on that one.

Ouch, lemme go see where these bite marks on my ankles came from...

Edit: HEY! Wait a minute! There's a difference between "tools" and "JUST tools!"

You can't throw a slow ball right across the strike zone like that and expect me not to swing at it.

You hit the low hanging fruit out of the ball park.

Or...you go to the well too often, and you get burned.

Also: I think the Prosonic is better...
You haven't sold that red Prosonic yet? Make me an offer that I can't refuse and maybe I can make room for it.

I think we've come to a complete misunderstanding of what "clean" is, after a few decades of super-saturated cascading gain monster amps. I would consider that initial setting on 4 to be crunchy, especially if you're pounding out full chords.
And jeez, come on - turn it up to ten already!
Yes to all of the above. Fender Clean isn't what it used to be. Peoples' ears have changed following so many years of exposure to metal, and that amp is not intended to be a Vibrolux Reissue. That amp is definitely designed to have a modern blues/rock voicing, and even with that modern voicing that amp is still one heck of a lot cleaner in the clean channel than the way most people use their amps today. And to be fair, the Prosonic was the development platform that Fender used to get to the commercialization of the SuperSonic series of amps. It worked. The SuperSonic amps have been tremendously popular.

But to give that NZ Blues Guy a fair shake, he is a blues player, and blues players embrace a different type of distortion than thrashing metalheads who think that everyone who isn't just like them is a pussy. I don't know if you've seen any of that guys videos, he's not a bad player. His channel is all about blues playing and blues gear. And context is important -- when you're playing in a small room by yourself, that's the bedroom application, and 60W can be painfully loud in a bedroom to anyone who isn't as deaf as Ted Nugent. And don't make fun of ear buds. Not wearing them is passe'. Real Men wear ear buds today:

I've never played the SuperSonic 60. That's why I posted the video links. But I've thought about them. I haven't bought one because I need another Twin amp like I need another hole in my head, and if I'm going to haul around a twin, it's going to be a Real Twin... like my "Fender Major".

But let's try to keep this in perspective -- I recommended those videos for Mike, because he mentioned the amp. And remember, this is Mike's thread. I've never seen Mike ask for a metal amp that can keep up with an animal on drums. For most guys a 60W 2x12 with V30s is going to get plenty loud, and if that's not enough there's always an extension cab.
