There has to be something wrong with the volume pot module. Everything plugs in, so it's not a soldering issue, and that wouldn't effect the volume pot.

I'd return it and get a new one.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

I live in Canada and ordered it from the states, the thing I don't get is that it came with 2 separate pickups, each with it's own jack, volume and tone pots as well. I tried both with the same issue. Ya, the toggle switch works fine, I've tested with the sound on. I'm going to try replacing the battery.

What about board? How do the traces and solder look on the connection board? If the two pots do the same thing, a common element is the board.

What do you mean the board? All the wiring is connected to the buss, as shown in the first picture, no soldering required just plug and play.

I can't spot any solder on the buss. As well I tried both connections on the 2 busses that came with the pickups with the same results. People are telling me to just take it to a guitar tech, but I don't see how they are going to do anything different then following the diagram that was provided.

From the diagram, it looks like the shield(S) and the tip(T) on the jack socket are labelled wrongly and need to be swapped.

You are a life saver man. It worked. Think I should notify EMG tech support of this?

                    Glad about that.

Surely they must be aware of it, but I'd just wait until they phone you up

Ya lol, just happy it's fixed. Saved me over 100$.

                      Cheers!

Thanks for the support everyone, been liking this forum since day one .

They are saying that the white wire is signal and the black wire is ground.

                        Look at diagram #4

                        http://www.emginc.com/content/wiring...0230-0110D.pdf

If that's the case, that matches the other diagram, where black goes to sleeve (S) and white goes to tip (T).

That sounds like someone else might be plugged in backwards.

                          You could be right there.

I just took the mottled "white" wire to be the screen in the diagram...

I was quite excited about it.

I thought it was as well, until I went to the other PDF and started reading it.

I see in the instructions that one connector on the tone control is reversed on purpose. I'm not sure why.

So I shouldn't be installing the jack, putting all my strings on and play just yet?

If it seems to be working, then it's working.
