  • Hi psychotech,
You do realize you're trying to sell your pickups to a bunch of guys that wind pickups right? And PLEASE don't tell Possum you have the PAF vibe down. He's been working on it for years!

That red poly wire is actually pretty decent, what resistance are the pickups? You'd be able to tell then what gauge of wire it is by that. Sounds like 43 though. Him shining you on as you say isn't good, basically he burned a bridge there, not good customer relations and no repeat business from that attitude. There is nothing wrong with using a machine to wind pickups, if the tone is there, neither method is superior, its the operator that counts. I see that red wire on early 70s P90s and that era alot. Wire is just a tool, its how you use it, though there are definitely substandard products out there. MWS 43 that I have is so touchy I can only wind squishy soft coils with it or it shorts itself out, about as good as some Korean I bought. PAF , whats a PAF?

And you don't have the special metal alloys, just ask him!

          • I think it's funny to see how hard some of you guys try to nail Will Boggs. If any of you found this wire, you'd be yelling at the top of your lungs that you were the King!

            Sad.

I have several pickups made from this wire, and am retailing them for Will. They are fantastic pickups. If any of you whiners would try them, you'd agree, but I doubt any of you would have the balls to admit it. I am surprised to see some guys that act like Will's friends on another forum being so vindictive here. Shame on you.

What goes around, comes around, boys.

Why not use that energy to improve your own products and STFU about anyone else's stuff? If Kevin tried to discredit Dave this hard, Dave would YELL like a mofo, and a bunch of you would choose sides.

THERE IS ENOUGH BUSINESS FOR ALL.

How many of you eat the same thing for dinner every night? Wear the exact same clothes?

Think about it, and try to rise above the petty bullshit that so many of you on this thread so happily toss around.

            • Of course. That is who I buy my pups from? I have bought about 10 to experiment. It helps to know what is out there if you can afford it. Is makes great research. I have been winding and buying and peeling and rewinding pups for a while and PAF tone is just a Tool as well. It's about guitar tone for me. I don't understand the issue with Possum? I just put it out there that I have what I have and I am confident. Just thought you might like to know. I don't see this as rocket science it is fun. I am just another hack trying to get in on the action!

              Regards,

You're right, if I'd found a stash of old wire like that I'd be a happy camper :-) I don't have any issues with Will, and I do agree he makes some really good sounding pickups. The couple I've heard though don't sound like real PAFs to me, thats my opinion and not a criticism, you can either agree or not, I have two real PAFs here now and know exactly what they sound like :-) but I don't think his objective is to MAKE PAF clones anyway, just good sounding buckers which by all accounts he does.

I do have to say though, no one who has been here any amount of time tries to do a sales pitch for their products, anyone that does that usually doesn't get very warm treatment. The only reason I point to what I'm doing now with my new PAF product is to say "hey guys, I ain't gonna tell you how I did but here's some hints at what you should be looking at if that tone interests you at all." A sharing of ideas and opinions. If someone had a good experience with Will's work fine, it shouldn't be intimidating to anyone. If someone tried to tear me down here, I don't play that game and would just disappear for awhile, calling people names is a no-win waste of energy for both sides, so I just ignore it :-)

This is another thread that won't die DIE THREAD...DIE...DIE...DIE...DAMIT!

Greg, I would apprecieate it if you would leave my name out of this. This thread is old news and we have moved on. And I resent the fact that you're accusing me of intentionally discredting someone here..when thet fact of the matter is I asked a legitimate technical question that is highly applicable to the context of this forum. Yes, in hindsight, I wish i had phrased the question differently. However, i would of still posed this question because it is a relevant topic to discuss on a forum like this. And the purpose was to discuss the technical side of using older wire as i have previously stated.

If you have a problem with someone here, take it up with that person instead of making blanket statements that arn't really directed towards anyone that folks are attemptiing to discredit an individual or being vindictive. Because, quite frankly, I'm getting tired of hearing these allegations when they're not directed toward the culprit.

If you want to address something that phycotech said..take it up with him...and not continue to fan the flames at everyone here. Your statment below is a prime example. (all the folks here don't agree with him.)

I agree.....let us move beyond this petty bullshit.
