I did a very unbalanced pickup recently. 1000 turns difference between coils. I decided to go that far because of an old Hi-A pickup I have, which is also mismatched by about that much.

I put the stronger coil towards the bridge (it was a bass bridge pickup). I was really quite interesting, sounding more like two single coils on together than a humbucker. it was very quiet too.

I plan on experimenting more with mismatched coils, now that I'm past worrying about adding noise...

Next up is my stacked Tele pickup. (and to Possum, yeah, you told me to try that back when I first wound that thing!)
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
