no ones been insulted - nothing happened - forget it!
Roy buchanans tone sucks eggs -- who cares!
Please don't be offended, I am not offering my opinion so as to offend anyone.
I just saw the PM (and replied) and hope you understand that I only am posting my opinion, no offence to anyone, really.
"Crap" was probably the wrong word, I should be more elequant with things I don't care for, I'm a neandrethal, maybe I should go do some Geico commercials.
{Edit}
I don't hate his tone, it was what did it for him so I really can only say it wouldn't do it for me. IMHO Roy was one of a handfull of the best players to ever grace the guitar world.
Now I'm gonna go back and listen to him again, CD's still in the player.
Ok, I sent the ebayier in Japan a offer - on those - I'd like to buy them and share with you guys what I find inside - mismatch - wire - tension - magnets etc..
they are being called the best PAF copies ever made - and the fact that they were done over there - may prove they could do it again - right - I'd like to get these pups and have a good look..
the Greco high end "Super Real" series had Dry Z's - I'd like to just buy the whole guitar - and not spend 600 on the pups when I can get the guitar for 1200. or less
Let's all Close shop and Go Fishing!, the heck with everything today!
yea right, your a funny dude, LOL
the most worshiped Tele tone on planet earth is "Scary and sounds like shit"
and your point or contribution to this PAF topic .. / PAF thread is what again?
You know what it is, some people don't like the sound of Teles.
Steve Howe used a Tele on the Relayer album with the band Yes, but he normally used a big Gibson archtop.
I thought he got a cool tone, it was a lot like Roy's, but one of my friends said he hated it because Teles sound like a "pig with a stick up its ass"
Everyone has different tastes.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein
Wow, scary how he (Michael) cites Roy as a tone monster!, yeeouwza, the Roy albums I have all sound like shit.
Don't get me wrong he (Roy) was a masterful player, one of the best, just (IMHO) his setup sounded horrible.
Jeff Beck liked Roy too. I love Beck's tone... it's that speaker breaking up thing Roy also got. Then of course there was Danny Gatton... Same tone.

How many Japanese guitars have you played? Some of them are really nice, like Yamaha, Ibanez, ESP, and the pickups suck!
I had a customer with a Yamaha SG-200, the cheaper version of the SG-2000. The pickups were thin sounding and hummed. They were out of phase with themselves!
I have another customer with a very expensive Yamaha six string bass. Nice bass, crappy electronics. I don't understand why they aren't making great pickups to match the guitars, but that's not what I've experienced.
This is why they keep using things like Duncan and Bartolini.
I think it's all hype.

where did you hear these are the best PAF copies in the world? I did some google searching and all I could find is that they are considered to be as good as DiMarzio PAF copies? I got an early 70's DiMarzio PAF "copy" because someone told me he thought they were as good as the originals. You should see this thing, to save money they used only one slug bobbin so on the pole screw side the screws are only threaded into the keeper, otherwise are floating in air, the keeper is alot wider version like the stuff they do now, tone wise it was weak sounding and boring. Poly wire as well. I bought one of their old brochure flyers on that pickup and they claim its an identical copy, wow talk about marketing nonsense :-) Google Dry Z pickups and you won't find much at all. If you have some link to this info would like to see it. Be aware that to back engineer any humbucker you need to have a metals analysis done on all the parts, this can get awfully expensive. Its hard to tell from your sound clips, I didn't get alot of PAF tone hits off it.

From Greco owners on HC -- and the Tokai Forum - seems its a known fact among those guys - what I was interested in is why? - and how close were they? next would be could they do it again? and for how much? then I could sell them here... if they were worthy.. -- something I think worth looking deeper into and not taking lightly -- but I promise to share with you and other who are interested..

Yeah I'd be interested to see what in one of those Greco pickups, sounds like they did something similar.
Here's a pretty good video with a PAF equipped 335 type guitar, this one is stereo looks like, the tone is typical PAF: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoqG3hif_dg

That's because it's their regular bobbin for the set screw poles, like on the Super Distortion.
Those are the pickups my friend replaced the real Gibsons for in his Paul way back when.
My guitar making partner likes those old Dimarzio PAF's. He buys a lot of those and Duncan Antiquities.
