A friend of mine here in town grabbed a guitar for the first time when I had about 13 years of playing and practicing. A couple of years later I meet him and I couldn't believe how he was playing. I asked how the heck do you play like that, and develop such a good right hand, picking with fingers and pick and all the tricks in just 2 years.... He said well since I'm a leftie and I play right handed my left hand was the easy part so I practiced the right hand twofold

As far as something you can carry around, I only built one pedal (Coincidentally it was a gift for this left handed player I just mentioned.)

Don't feel too left out jmaf, I not only don't have the hendrix gene, but I'm not even close. I enjoy playing but I can barely entertain myself. I still try, but I play about like the guy that took lessons once and after the second lesson the teacher told him he would give him double his money back if he wouldn't tell anyone .

LOL! I read that and thought 'he's talking about me'. When I die they can say jmaf couldnt play to save his life, but damn his tone was great LOL!

I made a set of relic (how I hate that word) humbuckers for a guy.
They came out pretty good. I'm not happy with the double black pickup but it's not too bad.

I finally finished the double rail prototype I was working on. This is not the single coil size one I was talking about the other night, it is a different one, full sized. Pretty much in the style of L500 or Dimebucker. This one is wound on Mojo bobbins, and I used their rails, but I polished and chromed them. It came out 13.8k DCR 7.43 Henrys about what I was shooting for. Took four tries to get the windings like I wanted them, though. The magnets are my own design, which is a combination of a C8 and some neos. Don't know how it will sound yet, I still have to put together the guitar it (or the next prototype one) will go in. But the spectrums look good compared to the dimebucker. Resonant peak is 5.2kHz. It's not really my genre, but the customer on this one is a good friend, who brought me his Ibanez a couple of months ago for a setup and to install a dimebucker. I did that, but now he wants me to make him a parts guitar on an Ibanez style body with this one in the bridge and the single coil sized one in the middle and a normal hot humbucker in the neck. Since he likes the dimebucker I took all the data off of it before I installed it and that's where I started with this one. I've got his body, neck, and Floyd Rose here, so the next step is to finish the single coil sized version and put it all together. Separately, I also got in a nice brand new Custom Shop 335 that the owner doesn't like the string spacing on and he wants me to make him a new bone nut for it and do a setup. Good customer, has one of the worst cases of GAS I have ever seen. Good for me though, I've lost count of how many of his guitars I've set up. He has a collection like you would not believe. Sometimes he has brought me the next one when he picked up the one I just finished. He's right though the factory setup on that 335 is next to unplayable unless you have real thin fingers. The strings are way too close together. Anyway it was a good day for the shop.

I really like the hybrid I just put in my beater strat.
I'm going to take it out and change the blade to one I ground down to the right height.
I'm also going to redo the bridge Tone Cap, and I will probably pot the pickup.
My old Beater Cherry red Strat is a evolution in progress.
It has the blade bobbin is wound with some larger 43PE, and the screw Bobbin is 43 SPN.
The Magnet is a A8. Great tone, and works great tapped.
Sounds like you have customers that are High Rollers.
Most of mine are Discount low Rollers!

If you don't mind me asking, it looks like the wire is 4 wire with the braid over it, like push back wire.
I've never seen any just like that.
I use the 4 wire from mojo, it has the plastic insulated sheathing.

I only have a couple of the high rollers, but man am I thankful for that. Most of them are poor like me. Maybe one job in a year. But, two or three good customers like that make up for a lot of flakes. No telling how many emails I have gotten where someone has said they wanted me to make them something cool and then never showed up. I've quit ordering the parts ahead for them. I didn't see the Mojo ad though. I am just glad they have the parts I have needed so far. I have another customer that wants a Tele sized humbucker for the bridge on his tele. The bridge position , not the neck. I think that's just wierd but what the heck I'll try anything once and he may be right for the style he plays. I've got the parts for that here when I finish the single coil sized HB and I'll start on that one next. At least I know him and he isn't a complete flake, just broke. And he's one of the ones that might go for it or not, by the time I finish making him what he wanted, I suspect he will have already found something else to do the job.

That's because I make most of my lead wires up from scratch. I use four pieces of different colored MIL spec silver teflon 26 AWG wire and thread them through a separate piece of shielding braid. I do that on my P.A.F. style OEM models too. Long ago, I made up a needle about 16 inches long out of a stainless welding rod and use that to make up the lead wires. It is a bit of a tedious process, but comes out cool and once I set up for it it isn't that hard. I forget where I got the braid, it was someplace like Mouser or Allied or Newark or something, I'd have to look it up. The brand of the braided shielding is Consolidated. But I have several rolls of it in different sizes. I do use the Mojo lead wire for some things though it is just easier. But I like the way the silver teflon wire is easy to solder since it doesn't melt back.

Cool! that works slick.
I don't think you have to worry about most guys going to that much trouble.
I've ran regular shielded cable through shield like that in amps to get a double shielded cable.
On preamp tubes.
Very high quality looking.
When I worked for Lucent installing digital phone offices, I mainly worked the night shift.
A habit hard to break.

Sure Terry, I took the finish down on a wire wheel and then just put a bit of etchant solution on a Q-tip and rub it on the poles and screw heads. Wait about 10-15 minutes and blot it off with a wet paper towel. The longer you leave it on the more aged it gets.

I played them in my test guitar but I didn't record them but the 42PE neck pickup sounded very similar to the one in this video.
The bridge on the relic set was wound with poly so there not really comparable.
