Max,
Pretty much anything is possible with this circuit, if you're willing to go to enough trouble to make it happen. If you're going to use...

Max,
I think that chassis is a bit too small, unless you want to do a lot of work. OTOH, a preamp w/toroid PT would probably be easy to fit...

Max,
With a hot pickup, you might be able to get the same amount of overdrive as in the intros to AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long"...

Clint,
Rk stands for 'cathode resistor'. Replacing a cathode resistor with a small-value pot (wiper = pot output) can make an excellent MV control...

Clint,
The Marshall 30th Anniversary amps are the only guitar amps I know of that have low-volume compensation, but there are probably others...Last edited by Ray Ivers; 09-16-2007, 03:24 PM.

Kelley,
Great to see you back again! I've been kinda MIA lately...

You could:
a) remove the 2.2M and 330K resistors after V1a, along with the .02uF and 120pF caps

Tone Stack Tweaks
Here's a tone stack that IMO works pretty well, from a Crate GFX15 of all things - I added a high-impedance version on the right:

Otis,
You could try replacing V1 (first preamp tube) with a 12AU7, which will result in a tonal change from the mismatch to the 12AX7 circuit...

Bob,
Just FWIW... 5 out of the 6 original KT77's are still going strong in my '81 Marshall 2000 amp, running until very recently at @ 700Vplate/700Vscreen....

Obviously... nor did I claim that in my post. I assumed it was understood that this was a dielectric-strength rating, just as 600V-rated wire is not designed...

Carlo,
My 83 shows over 7VAC, and about 7mV DC, with the same connections.
My feeling is that the house AC-wiring conductors -...

JR,
I think you really won't know until you try them and test for saturation, as the Ampeg SVT mid-control circuit signal levels...

Bob,
After seeing high power choke-input supplies in action in two old Vox amps (4120 and 7120)... well, I just don't think I'd...

Greg,
If GT carries a certain tube type, I'll definitely try and get the GT's before going elsewhere - but that's not to say...

Bob,
God, no - I don't have a tracer, nor the time to use it if I did. I let Groove Tubes do mine.

Greg,
OK, yeah - the fourth set were Groove Tubes with the 'winged' structures on the plate seams - those are JJ's, right? I've never gotten...
