| Best source for pickup coil wire (42 AWG)
I am just getting into winding pickups (for myself primarily) and I was wondering what the best source for 42 AWG is. I have purchased from StewMac in the past and I see that GuitarPartsUSA is a little cheaper for the same quantity of wire. Where do most of you guys get your wire? Is it necessary to buy in bulk to get a decent price or should I be content with $25 for a half pound spool? I do see some on ebay from time to time but I do not know if I could trust the quality. Thanks. |

I buy from MWS. You have to buy larger spools to save money. Depending on the type of insulation you want you're probably looking at at a minimum of 6-8lb spool and spending $120-$175. If you are just starting I'd recommend SPN as it is less expensive than PE.
