Originally posted by Bruce Johnson View PostOkay, the first thing is that the screws we need are M2.5, not M4. The holes in the LCD PCB are sized for M2.5, which is around 0.098". You had to ream them to fit a 4-40, which is 0.110".
I'll work it all out today, but yes, my hardware kit will probably be:
(4) standoffs threaded M2.5 all the way through, to go between the boards,
(4) spacers with through holes to go between the LCD board and front panel,
(4) short M2.5 screws to go in the back
(4) long M2.5 screws to go in from the front, through the spacer and into the standoff.
I'll get these parts together and mail them out by the end of the week.

Here we go again...
RE: Purchase Order # 2754381
On the above purchase order, placed on the internet, part number,--517-929834-01-16-- for qty. 6_, has been discontinued.
I can cancel this part off the order.
Please advise.
Thank You,
Marilyn Harlan
Customer Service
Mouser Electronics, Inc.
Two 8's are more expensive as is a 20 pin snap-away (which can be cut into a 16 pin)
Logistics seem to be nickle-n-diming us ...every time we turn around here.
The up-side is that we're only 6 pieces short, I'll check with a couple local sources to see if I can get us a suitable replacement. I'd really hate to have to place another order with any of the usual suspects (Mouser/Digikey/Allied/Jameco) and have to pay another $8 shipping.
Stand by...

I think that will do it. I have 4 in my shop I can throw in so I will be able to ship everybody's out without delay when everything is in.
Whew!

The EDIT button went away on post #269, so I have to re-post again...
UPDATE:
This group-buy was closed 8-1-2009
The latest bump in the road is dealing with international currency exchange rates.
We didn't get the same Dollar-to-Euro currency exchange rate as we would have got a month ago when this first started and when we developed the participant cost figure. It has gone up (for us) and our $27 PIC is now $30 and since we have to pay the Paypal (15euro) that went up too.
So... we all need to ante-up another $3.06.
(I covered the difference with my Visa card for now, but we'll need to get this settled before I ship out the packages)
STATUS:
Elepro has shipped the PIC's (see post# 271)
Mouser has shipped all but 3 parts on back-order. Mouser shipped us what they had and discontinued the 16-pin header, Mike (aka; defaced) had some on hand and volunteered to fill his order, and I have some in my shop which means we as a group don't have to buy elsewhere to fill the group-buy.
(thanks Mike)
Bruce is working the stand-off and screws issue.
(thanks Bruce)

I've got all of the screws and washers, and I made up the standoffs and spacers last night, so the standoff kits are about ready to go. I just got Brad's message about needing 4 sets of longer standoffs, so I'll whip them up this evening. I'll get the kits mailed to Brad over the weekend.
You'll get:
(4) aluminum standoffs; 3/16" OD x 10.92mm (0.430") long, threaded M2.5 all the way through.
(4) aluminum spacers; 3/16" OD x 8.58mm (0.338") long, drilled 0.100" through
(4) M2.5 x 5mm screws
(4) M2.5 x 16mm screws
(8) M2.5 washers
The M2.5 x 5mm screw goes into the back of the PCB, with a washer under its head, threading into the standoff. The standoff goes between the PCB and the LCD board. The spacer goes between the LCD board and the front panel of your enclosure. The M2.5 x 16mm screw, with a washer, goes in through the holes in the front panel, through the spacer, through the LCD board, and threads into the standoff. That should secure everything nicely. You need to drill the four holes and cut the rectangular opening in the front panel of your box, based on the drawing of the LCD in the pdf file.
There should be plenty of thread length to handle front panel thicknesses of 0.040" to 0.070", which is typical of most little aluminum and plastic kit boxes. If you want to fit yours into a lacquered mahogany box with dovetailed corners, well, you'll just have to get longer screws!
