Well, it is on a Saturday. I did a business trip, Dallas to Chicago and back in one day. It wasn't too bad, but I didn't have to pay. For my money, this is one of those once in a lifetime things you shouldn't pass up. I don't know if just a handful of people will show up or 10,000 and the State Police.

That's a great idea. Sheldon Brown is a favourite reference for me that keeps his memory alive and that would be a great format for an Enzo site. The other person I always thought about when I read Enzo's posts was Bernie Nicholson, Author of 'Modern Motorcycle Mechanics' He was the Enzo of motorcycle repair and maintenance.

Just like Enzo to leave riddles. The "Rosebud" thing is from an Orson Welles movie (Citizen Kane). I'll now have to watch the movie in his honor. I have no idea about the 200 bucks and golf balls, but you can bet there's something to it.

There are two separate jokes he liked.

1 - Married for 50 years, wife and hubby are cleaning their attic, when the wife comes across a box with $200 and 3 golf balls in it. She asks 'what's this?' Hubby answers, "I'm sorry to have to admit that over the years, I have strayed, and every time I strayed, I put a golf ball into that box." The wife sighs, and says, "well, I guess that over 50 years, 3 golf balls, 3 times, I guess that's not too bad. what's with the $200?" He answers "every time I got to a dozen golf balls, I'd sell them..."

2 - Guy goes on vacation asks his buddy to take care of his cat. He returns, and asks buddy how things went. Buddy says "well, your cat died." Guy exclaims "Oh! You don't just blurt that kind of thing out! Break it to me gently, tell me the cat got out, you tried to coax it back in, it got onto the roof, you kept trying to coax it back and tried and tried, but eventually, the cat didn't and died." Friend says, "ok, I guess that would be a nicer way." So, guy says "anything else go on while I was gone?" and friend answers, "well, your mom went out onto the roof..."

I'm pretty sure the big guy shared those with us on the humor thread. He was a regular there and you should look it up if you haven't yet. It needn't be said to anyone here that he always had, and NEARLY always maintained a great sense of humor. Sometimes using it to help diffuse tense circumstances.

EDIT: I always wanted to be a fly on the wall when he and Wendy would take their game to a diner. The way Enzo tells it they had a sort of rolling repertoire of bits and they would cue off each other. I'm sure it was a hoot.
"Take two placebos, works twice as well." Enzo

"Now get off my lawn with your silicooties and boom-chucka speakers and computers masquerading as amplifiers" Justin Thomas

I have been out with them on many occasions. It's a good time, but they don't make it weird for the waiter/waitress if they don't seem interested or aren't playing along. My favorite is when she'd ask for plastic silverware for him, ya know, after the incident.......

                    Thinking out loud.

If there are folks going to the Enzo Event I'm wondering if it would be appropriate or appreciated if there was a plaque or something from MEF to represent how much he meant to us? I don't even know how much time that would take. I would gladly contribute to something like that though, both time and money.

Then again I also know that after a loved one passes having a bunch of tokens of rememberance can feel like a burden a few months down the road. Maybe a website would be a better use of effort.

                    • well...if the tokens are in your face every day it might be like that......but personally, I don't think like that..it really is the thoughtfulness that will actually count....just my thoughts on the whole thing...I would love to attend but I am in eastern Canada so I am kind of off the beaten track so to speak...

Well you're probably closer than I am to Michigan. But proximity isn't at all the only consideration. My brother has always been, and remains unattached and self employed. He manages to be present for events like this whenever they come up and I have great jealousy for it. I'm no longer self employed (painting industry) so I'm making a little less money and have less control over my schedule. That's really all there is to it. I think Enzo would understand, though I wish I could be there anyway so others could see the effort and maybe feel how much he mattered. That is to say that attendance would be a statement of respect. And I do wish I could.

                            • Oh no ! I am so saddened to hear this. He's was legendary at least in my mind, and helped me a lot more than I deserved. I rarely come here lately but i just started coming back to tubes after a years long stint with modeling and came to do a search, and when i saw this i figured it must have happened a while ago but i see it was just recent. Major loss to the community and a electronic genius. Condolences to his family. RIP Enzo, and thank you for the uncountable posts you contributed to helping so many including myself.
