PEAVEY BRAVO 112 crunch channel bad switch?

Just picked up my third one of these amps, and found that when the ultra gain pull switch is engaged, the tone becomes thin, crackling, and extremely shrill, cutting in an out. Clean channel and all other amp functions fine. Already changed v2 out, and no difference. Seems like problem only relates to switch in the pulled out position. Any advice? Thanks very much!

Well, if it isn;t the tube, start following the signal through the amp.

Check the plate and cathode voltages at each stage through the bad channel. Check the solder under any controls for that channel, and for that matter the controls themselves.
